About Project Linus

Project Linus is a national non-profit organization that is based on the character from the Peanuts comic strip named Linus.  Their mission is to provide comfort to children who have been traumatized or are suffering from some serious illness like cancer.  There are many Chapters located across the country that support a specific geographic area.  At the time of this writing there are 367 chapters!  Each chapter is made up of volunteers (like you!) who lovingly create these beautiful blankets, inspect them to insure they are safe for children and distribute them to various organizations around the community where there is need.  You can use your creative talents to help these children get through some difficult time in their life with talents you already possess or you can learn new skills (how to crochet, knit or sew blankets) through our group.  All you have to do is contact me at 907-388-1113 or email Lucy4Linus@gmail.com.

There are many ways you can help!

  • Become a Blanketeer (blanket maker)
  • Help sew on our special Project Linus labels
  • Donate supplies i.e., kid-friendly & washable yarn, cotton fabric or fleece, thread, office supplies like envelopes, printer paper and stamps, or gift certificates to stores that sell these items
  • Monetary Donations  Click here to learn where to mail checks or to donate online at www.projectlinus.org.  Please note in the comment section if your donation is intended for the Fairbanks, AK Chapter.
  • Save your craft store coupons for us

The blankets can be crocheted, knitted, quilted, woven, tied or hemmed fleece.  Please don’t use any small buttons or other items that could be a choking hazard.  They must be washable, soft to a child’s skin, and in colors that kids love.  They must be free of animal hair and smoke.  They can be sized for children from infant to teens.

If you have any questions please give me a call at 907-388-1113 or send me an email at Lucy4Linus@gmail.com

HISTORY OF PROJECT LINUS IN FAIRBANKS

I started out working as a volunteer under the Anchorage Chapter in July of 2009.  I started rounding up volunteers to make blankets and working to get the word out.  It was slow going but many blankets were delivered to Fairbanks area children during that time.  In September 2010 I officially opened the Fairbanks, AK Chapter of Project Linus and contacted Fairbanks Memorial Hospital about using the outpatient lobby as a central drop off zone.  Since that time we have seen a lot of growth!  Through the help of some wonderful people  more and more people are hearing about what we are trying to do.  It is being mentioned on the radio and in the newspaper.  I know that we will continue to flourish and reach more children in the Fairbanks area.
